Mike's thoughts:
On our bodies...I believe in the innate abilities that God has built into our bodies to heal themselves. I also believe that God works through the hands of many therapists to help realign the soft tissue found in the body so it can be able to start the healing process. Our bodies are wonderfully adaptive creatures that will allow the surrounding environment to change us over time. We have to work continually with nutrition, alignment, exercise and stretching to keep our bodies in perfect working order. My mission is that the people who come to me will leave with their bodies in better shape than when they walked into my clinic.
On disorders... I suffered for years with CTS(Carpal Tunnel Syndrome). It got to the point where I thought that I was going to have to give up doing the one thing I love, Massage Therapy. My hands had gotten to the point that I couldn't open them up all the way, and working for more than a few hours would leave my hands in tremendous pain. At night, my hands would tingle, go numb or throb and I was sick of it to the point of almost tears on a regular basis. I couldn't even open peanut butter jars because of the strength I'd lost. I figured the only way out was surgery, but I knew that I didn't want to be cut open and go through the problems of the procedure. It didn't make sense to me that surgery would help when doctors didn't know what causes CTS. Then, I met Michael Young and learned about and how to perform Muscle Release Techniquesm(MRT). In addition to gaining much needed CEUs, I had a name to go with many of the conditions his course description listed and I wanted to see what I could do with MRT. Within 15 minutes of MRT treatment, I had regained almost all of the strength in my hands and they felt great! I wasn't "cured" in one treatment, but I knew in my heart that I was on the road to recovery, FINALLY!! I also knew at that moment that this man had changed my life and my practice, forever. On treatment... About 1/2 of my massage technique consists of the muscle release technique. I have treated many clients and have found that a very large number of soft tissue disorders go hand in hand with muscle dysfunction or are caused by it. I have also found that most people do not believe that massage can help and that they usually leave it as a last resort when conventional medicine won't help with their conditions.
